UNUSUAL WESTERWALD SALTGLAZE STONEWARE COBALT BLUE AND MANGANESE PURPLE-DECORATED JUG, 1715-40.

Molded on the front with a raised badge enclosing the crowned “GR” (George Rex) cipher, within a songbird slanted to fit the body of the jug and within “feather” borders, incised reeded panels and stylized scrolling leaves, the neck turned and heightened in manganese purple. Height 11 ¾ inches. Together with a Westerwald jug incised on the front with two S-scroll stems applied with flowerhead medallions, within incised borders and on a cobalt blue ground. Height 7 ½ inches. (2)
