Printed on the cover with a view of “THE GLORIOUS VICTORY” between the “UNITED STATES” and “MACEDONIA” [sic], and on the base with the Great Seal of the United States within the inscription “Divided we Fall, United we Stand/ Liberty, freedom, Independence.” Diameter 3 ½ inches.The capture of HMS “Macedonian” occurred during a naval engagement fought near Madeira on October 25th, 1812, between the frigate USS “United States,” commanded by Stephen Decatur, and the frigate HMS “Macedonian,” under the command of John Surman Carden. The American ship won the long battle, capturing and bringing the “Macedonian” back to the United States. It was the first British warship to ever be brought into an American harbor.
