Peddy Leonard (1760-1850) was the daughter of George Leonard and Experience White of Norton, Massachusetts. In 1801 she became the second wife of Jabez Bowen (1739-1815), Colonel of the Militia, Deputy Governor of Rhode Island and Chief Justice of the Rhode Island Supreme Court. A later portrait of her, painted by an anonymous artist circa 1810-1815, is in the collection of the Rhode Island Historical Society. Oil on canvas, 19 x 16 ¾ inches. Unsigned.
