Robert Lindsay (1798-1853) was First Mate on the British East India Company ship “Hythe,” the vessel Chinnery took passage on when he left Calcutta for Macao in 1825. Later Lindsay was a Commander in the Company’s service. Oil on canvas, 9 ½ x 8 inches. The stretcher inscribed in ink “Robert L.” and in pencil “G. Chinnery.”
