Built in 1844 at Medford, Massachusetts, the “John Q. Adams” was commanded by Edward C. Nickels until 1850, when he became Captain of Donald McKay’s “Flying Fish.” Oil on canvas, 17 ¾ x 23 ¼ inches. The ship and captain identified by the inscription, l.c. In a gilt decorated Chinese ‘Chippendale’ frame.
