Painted with a view of a Chinese figure seated beside a rock in a fenced garden, the rim surrounded by a swag border, covered in blue glaze with a pink tinge, no foot rim. Diameter 8 ⅞ inches. Together with a London delft polychrome ‘Parrot and Flowers’ plate, 1725-35; and a Liverpool soup plate painted in ‘Fazackerly’ colors, circa 1760.
Provenance: The first affixed with a paper label printed in red “GAUTIER COLLECTION” and inscribed in pencil “8-47/ y 101-.” Louis Gautier was a renowned dealer in English delftware during the first half of the 20th century, who sold pieces to many well-known collectors.
