Literature: An identical Spode jug, also finely engraved and painted with the characteristic brick red band outlined in black, is illustrated in David Drakard, “Printed English Pottery: History and Humour in the reign of George III 1760-1820,” p. 196, pl. 541. The author discusses Spode Napoleonic printed wares, as well as the earlier production of both anonymous factories and the known potter Thomas Harley, pp. 193-197.
