Of straight-sided tapered form, side-mounted silver and treen handle, flat hinged cover, engraved with the motto “NULLA SALUS BELLO” (There is no safety in war), treen handle, maker’s mark and three ideograms beneath the base. 9 oz. Height 4 ½ inches.

Literature: An identical jug is discussed and illustrated in John Devereux Kernan, “The Chait Collection of Chinese Export Silver,” pp. 38-39, where the author notes that since the helm under the crest is Continental, the jug was probably made for a Continental family.
