Carved on the cover and four sides with panels of roundels and squares enclosing spokes, stars, elaborate knots, and flowerheads within demi-sunbursts, inscribed on the cover “RI ANNO 1672 OPT SCHP DOESBVRGH/ ROBERT SCOT DEN 16 IANNIWA,” affixed with a large brass escutcheon. Height 4 ¾ inches, width 11 ⅛ inches, depth 5 ½ inches.
