WILSON./ his horn parson/ made ye/ A.1792.o” above a checkerboard pattern and scalloped border, continuing to an engraved folk art crescent moon with face and three vertical stars, above the Great Seal of the United States. Length 10 ½ inches.On May 2, 1792, the second United States Congress enacted the Militia Act of 1792, allowing the President to take command of the state militias in times of imminent invasion or insurrection, and a second statute passed on May 8th required men owning rifles to provide a powder horn amongst other weaponry and equipment.
