Built in 1849 by Westervelt & Mackay, the “Southampton” served the New York-London route for the Black X Line. Oil on canvas, 24 x 36 inches. Unsigned. The reverse with remnants of a printed label for “B.B. Powell/ Artists’ Colourman… / 21 Old Hay-Market/ Bottom of Manchester Street,/ Liverpool.” The attribution partially based on the supplier’s label, which is associated with Walters.
