PICKARD CHINA GOLD-GROUND DEMITASSE COFFEE SERVICE, PAINTED BY FLORENCE M. JAMES FOR PICKARD STUDIOS, CHICAGO, 1919-22.
Comprising a coffeepot, sugar bowl and cover, cream jug, five cups and saucers; each surrounded by a border of water lilies, the coffeepot signed “F James” under the upper handle terminal, the serving pieces each printed “B & Co/ LIMOGES/ FRANCE” in green, the cups and saucers F. Thomas porcelain factory, printed “Thomas” and “Bavaria” in green, all with “PICKARD ETCHED CHINA” cartouche and urn factory mark 9 printed in black. Height of coffeepot 10 ¾ inches. (13)In 1901 Florence M. James (1874-), at the age of 16, had already set up her own china decorating studio in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In early 1905 she moved to Chicago and became one of Pickard Studio’s youngest and most prolific artists.
