ALFRED CZEREPAK (AMERICAN 1928-1986). “OBRIGADO,” CARVED AND PAINTED FIGURE OF A FISHERMAN, TWENTIETH CENTURY.
Obrigado is the Portuguese word for “obliged,” or thank you, probably referring in this case to a successful fishing expedition. The figure with chin in hand, seated on a plank with his catch lined-up behind him, painted “OBRIGADO” on one side of the base, incised “CZEREPAK” on the other side. Height 10 ⅛ inches, length 8 ½ inches.
